Split Bag Foils Thieves Stealing About $2K in Loot From CVS: Police

A man and a woman tried to make off with almost $2,000 worth of energy drinks and over-the-counter drugs from the drug store, Oak Forest police report. And they would've gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for a meddling gift bag.

Two thieves nearly got away with about $2,000 worth of over-the-counter medication and energy drinks March 4, according to an Oak Forest police report.

An employee at CVS, 15840 Cicero Ave., told police a man and a woman entered at about 6:10 p.m. and tried to walk out with merchandise they didn't pay for, according to the report. The employee recognized the woman from a previous theft incident and became concerned, the report stated. A birthday gift bag the thieves were carrying split open as they tried to leave, spilling medicine and energy drinks onto the floor.

The man and woman were last seen in a white passenger vehicle, heading westbound on 159th Street, according to the report.
