Veterans Day 2017: What's Open, Closed In Oak Forest

Find out how the holiday will affect city agencies, institutions and services Friday.

OAK FOREST, IL — This year, Veterans Day is officially Saturday, Nov. 11, and while events honoring U.S. military men and women will be held this weekend, many institutions around Oak Forest will observe the holiday Friday.

Here's a look at how some places and services in the city will be handling Veterans Day:

Schools: Forest Ridge Elementary School District 142, Arbor Park School District 145, Community Consolidated School District 146, Bremen High School District 228 and Consolidated School District 230 will have classes.

City Government: City Hall and village offices will be open Friday, but closed Saturday. County, state and federal government offices will be closed, though.

Acorn Public Library: The library will be open.

Oak Forest Park District: Offices will be open.

Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.

Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.

Retailers, Restaurants, Bars and Other Businesses: Most will be open, but check hours ahead of time.
