OAK FOREST, IL — A south suburban non-profit is looking for volunteers to help build beds for Oak Forest children and families this weekend, organizers said.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace, a charity that builds and delivers beds to children who don't have stable bedding due, is hosting a building event Saturday at St. Damian Church.

According to Dave King, the president of the Oak Forest chapter, beds are given to families who have been through fires, floods, fled domestic abuse or cannot afford a bed.

The non-profit has chapters across the country, but south suburban chapters have been especially active, building beds for Homewood, Oak Forest and Chicago Heights children. No tools or building experience is needed for the community build days, organizers said, as volunteers can be taught on site.

This Saturday, any interested residents are invited to come and help at the St. Damian parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
