OAK FOREST, IL — The dog days of summer are winding down, and we get one last weekend before the school year and fall activities get into full swing. Labor Day 2019 is Monday, Sept. 2. And while it's a day of rest and relaxation for many, it's also a federal holiday, meaning many local services and offices will be closed.

Most big-box retailers will be open —and many are offering Labor Day deals— but smaller businesses and mom and pop stores might be closed, so it's a good idea to call ahead.

City Government: City Hall and city offices will be closed.
Schools: No classes for Forest Ridge Elementary School District 142, Arbor Park School District 145, Community Consolidated School District 146, Bremen High School District 228 and Consolidated School District 230.
Acorn Public Library: The library will be closed.
Postal Service: No mail service, and post offices will be closed.
Trash Pickup: Garbage collection will be delayed until the next day because of the holiday. Go to Homewood Disposal Service's website for more information.
CTA and Metra: Trains and buses for the transportation agencies will be running on Sunday/holiday schedules.
