Woman Steals Friend's Prescription: Midlothian Police Blotter

This Isn't My Prescription, But I Need It

Sonya Aretha Swann, 46, of the 14500 block of S. Lamon Avenue, was charged with unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance and theft, after she tried to fill a stolen prescription at Walgreens, 4800 W. 148^th Street.

Police were called to Walgreens by a pharmacist, who reported Swann was trying to fill a prescription that was not hers. Police instructed the pharmacist to fill the prescription and they would then detain Swann.

After the prescription was filled, police arrested Swann and transported her to the Midlothian Police Department.

Swann told officers that she was visiting with a friend, when she saw the prescription matched one of her own. Swann asked the friend if she could take the prescription, which the friend told her she could not.

Swann told police that she then took the prescription from the friend's home and attempted to fill it for herself. Swann was charged and the friend was informed of the incident.

Drunk Man Mugged for Coat, Cellphone

Police were on patrol in the 140 block of S. Turner Avenue at 7:55 p.m., when they were approached by a battery victim, who was on foot.

The victim told officers that an unknown black male had just confronted him, striking him in the face and taking his coat and cell phone. Officers noted that the victim had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Officers called paramedics to the scene, but the victim refused treatment.

The victim was unable to give an exact location of where the battery occurred, but officers were able to find the victim's glasses and traces of blood in front of an apartment building. Officers spoke with a neighbor, who said he saw the battery, but did not know the victim or the suspect. The neighbor said he believed the suspect lived in the building, no one answered the door at the apartment.

FRIDAY, JAN. 18

Center Wheel Caps Stolen, Again

Someone stole the center wheel covers from a woman's car, according to reports. 

The victim said that sometime overnight Jan. 17 and 18, an unknown suspect(s) removed the center wheel covers from her vehicle. The victim added that this was the second such incident and that the cost of replacement was $184.08.

No Weed Here—Well, Maybe a Little

Shawn K. Jackson, 34, of the 200 block of 156^th Street, Calumet City, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis 30 grams and under, following a traffic stop in the 14500 block of S. Pulaski Road. Officers pulled Jackson over because he was driving a vehicle without a front registration plate.

During the stop, officers smelled an odor of cannabis coming from the car and questioned Jackson about the smell. Jackson at first denied having any cannabis in the car, but later admitted to having the drug in his car. Jackson then reached under his driver's seat and retrieved a small, clear, plastic baggie from under his seat and turned it over to officers.

Jackson was issued a citation and a March 4 court date a court date at the Midlothian Council Chambers.

THURSDAY, JAN. 17

Cell Tower Burglarized

Police were called to an AT&T tower located at 3836 W. 148^th Street, after a complainant reported $4,000 worth of copper piping was stolen from the tower.

The complainant said that he was unsure when the theft occurred, as he is only on-site about once a month. He said that the piping is used to ground the tower in case of lightning strike.
