5 Candidates Vie For 4 Open Seats On CHSD 218 Board
Five candidates have filed to run for four open seats on the CHSD 218 school board in the April 2025 election.

OAK LAWN, IL — The consolidated election on April 1, 2025 will feature several local races, including the race for the CHSD 218 Board of Education.
CHSD 218 includes Richards (Oak Lawn), Shepard (Palos Heights) and Eisenhower in Blue Island. Residents within a specific subdistrict will elect their representative to the D218 board.
The last day to file petitions for the upcoming April election was Nov. 18. The Cook County Clerk has released an unofficial list of candidates for school board races.

Four seats are currently up for renewal, each for 4-year terms. Incumbents Thomas Kosnowski, the current board president representing subdistrict 4 (Alsip); Jennifer Bednarczyk, subdistrict 3 (Merrionette Park); Steve Radice, subdistrict 7 (Oak Lawn); and Candice Cantelo, subdistrict 2 (Blue Island).
Thomas McGinnis, of Crestwood, is challenging Kosnowski in subdistrict 4.

CHSD 218 is one of two school districts in Illinois where candidates run in subdistricts to maintain a balanced representation of communities. The other school district is Rockford.
