Chicago Stars FC End Season with Dramatic 2-1 Win Over Angel City FC in Final SeatGeek Stadium Match

Schlegel's late goal seals win at SeatGeek Stadium.

In their final game of the season at SeatGeek Stadium, Chicago Stars FC overcame Angel City FC 2-1. Angel City took the lead when a cross from Nealy Martin found Miyabi Moriya, whose shot deflected off Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher into the net. Chicago struggled in the first half, failing to generate much offense and being outshot 7-2, but the second half saw a much more energized Stars squad. Just after half-time, Jameese Joseph equalized in the 49th minute, finishing a well-executed play that started with a turnover and included key passes from Nádia Gomes and Ally Schlegel. Joseph's composed finish brought the match level (1-1), setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

With the score tied, both teams fought hard through the final minutes, but it seemed the game would end in a draw. However, in the 98th minute, Chicago's Ally Schlegel scored the decisive goal after a shot from Joseph deflected off Angel City's goalkeeper. Schlegel, following her shot, was quick to react to the rebound, burying the ball into the net to give Chicago the win. This late victory was especially significant as it was the first time the Stars had won after trailing at halftime since 2021, a remarkable turnaround in a season that had seen them struggle to come from behind.

The match also served as a celebration of both individual achievements and team milestones. The Stars recognized Ava Cook for reaching 50 regular-season appearances with the club, while also honoring retiring Angel City players Ali Riley and Christen Press for their contributions to the league. In addition, Chicago presented the She Inspires Me Award to Jessika Chaheine, founder of the nonprofit Guiding Light of Hope Inc., for her dedication to serving individuals, seniors and homeless with disabilities in the Chicagoland area. With the victory and the heartfelt tributes, Chicago’s final game at SeatGeek Stadium was a fitting send-off, closing a significant chapter for the club and its fans. In 2026, the Chicago Stars will play at Martin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern University.
