“Although this holiday season will be bittersweet as we plan his funeral, I’m finding solace in the love and prayers that have lifted us up,” Doss’s aunt, Hazel Truesdell, said in a Facebook post. “I’m thankful for the precious gift of closure, which has allowed our family to begin this healing process.”
Because Doss took his own life, the family said insurance will not pay out. The family has started a GoFundMe to pay for his funeral.
“Christian Doss was just 21 years old—a son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin, and friend. He was deeply loved by his family and everyone who knew him. At some point, Christian was a happy young man, full of love and always respectful. He cherished playing video games with his cousins and brought joy to those around him. Christian was an amazing son, a caring big brother, and a loyal friend. Life became heavy for our sweet boy, and now we pray he’s at peace.”
