New Fall Tradition Acorn To Oak Lantern Parade Returns

Kids are invited to Acorn to Oak Studios in Oak Lawn to paint a paper lantern Oct. 9, then march in a nighttime lantern parade Oct. 12.

OAK LAWN, IL — Acorn to Oak Studios is bringing back its popular lantern parade where children and their families will take an enchanting evening walk together guided by the light of hand painted lanterns.

Children will gather to decorate their lanterns from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the north wing of Acorn to Oak Studios, 9411 S. 51st Ave., Oak Lawn. The non-profit arts organization has a lot of lanterns, so sign up today.

Leaving their lanterns to dry, children and their families will start gathering at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at an Oak Lawn park to be announced.

Kids decorate lanterns for the 2023 Lantern Parade

The parade will begin promptly at 7 p.m. This is a fun fall activity that is not spooky or scary for young kids, but highlights the beauty of the fall season in a family friendly walk. All ages are welcome.

“We had so much fun last year, we wanted to make it even better this year,” Acorn To Oak board member Sandra Bury said. "We have more lanterns available and more ways to decorate them. We’ll have some fun activities the night of the walk too.”

The parade is sponsored by Complete Vision Care. The cost is $5 which includes a paper lantern, tissue decorations and a kid-safe LED lantern light. Families can choose to decorate one lantern, or can purchase extra lanterns for additional children. Registration is required, so reserve a spot today at Acorn To Oak Lantern Parade.
