OAK LAWN, IL — The determination, the desire and the will to win has certainly been there for the Oak Lawn Community High School girls' golf team since forming a team last year. Match by match they have been hitting more greens and sinking more putts.

On Oct. 5, the Spartans officially announced their presence to the sport by recording their first-ever girls golf victory in school history. They defeated their Burbank South Suburban Conference Red rival Reavis by a score of 242-285.

Senior Arianna Andersen and sophomore Kate Dillon led the way, each shooting a 60. Fellow seniors Allysa Canales and Alexia Stang followed them by shooting 61's. Lauren Burke finished with a 64 and her sister Grace Burke had a 65.

“It has been great watching the girls' team improve each and every day,” assistant golf coach Shawn Neubauer said. “You were really able to see them come together as teammates and friends throughout the season. Being able to tell them they won and seeing their reaction was really cool, and I’m thankful for being a part of it.”
