OAK LAWN, IL — New as well as experienced police officers to apply for openings in the Oak Lawn Police Department. OLPD offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

Candidates will be required to successfully complete a written examination and an oral interview to be placed on an eligibility list. Review OLPD’s policy regarding lateral transfer candidates.

Starting salary is $77,378 the first year with increases to $93,216 after one year to $111,054 after three years, plus benefits.

Summary of Qualifications

HEALTH: Physically and psychologically qualified to sustain the labors and exposures of a police patrol officer. VISION: Minimum of 20/70 uncorrected vision, corrected to 20/20 in each eye, with normal color and depth perception.

CHARACTER: No convictions of felonies; good moral character.

RESIDENCY: United States citizen. Employees must establish residency within the State of Illinois and within fifty (50) miles of the Oak Lawn Village Hall, 9446 S. Raymond Ave. within six months of their date of completion of their probationary period. EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least 60 semester (or 90 quarter) hours of credit from a regionally accredited college or university as of the date of filing the application for employment. Education will be waived for candidates who have four (4) years of active military duty with an Honorable Discharge and/or who meet the Lateral Transfer Candidate Policy.

P.O.W.E.R.: Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (P.O.W.E.R) card issued no more than 6 months prior to the closing date for filing the application.

LANGUAGE: Speak, read and write the English language proficiently.

DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a valid driver’s license from state of residency.

FEE: A $25 non-refundable test fee will be payable at time of written exam, at a date TBD. Prior to appointment, eligible candidates must pass a pre-employment background check and medical and psychological exams. Apply online or pick up applications on lower level of:
