Oak Lawn Police Bolster Patrols To Curb Holiday Drunken Driving
DUI enforcement patrols will be highly visible in Oak Lawn during the Christmas holidays through Jan. 2.
OAK LAWN, IL — With the holidays upon us, the Oak Lawn Police Department will be ramping up DUI and traffic safety patrols through Jan. 2.
Officers will be monitoring traffic for impaired or distracted driving, speeding and seat belt scofflaws. Oak Lawn police are joining forces with law enforcement agencies across Illinois who share a zero tolerance policy for drunk and high drivers. Other nearby towns are conducting similar patrols.
“This season, let’s make safety our shared priority,” said Sgt. Nick Kumke, of the Oak Lawn Police Department.

- Before you head to the party, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride-sharing service to get home safely.
- If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 9-1-1.
- Have a friend who is about to drive impaired? Take their keys and help them get home safely.
- Always buckle up.
Given the number of seat belt scofflaws during the Oak Lawn Police Department’s other holiday traffic enforcement campaigns, let’s keep those seat belts fastened, too.
The holiday enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
