Record-Breaking 496 Seat Belt Citations Issued During Labor Day Driving Safety Enforcement
Oak Lawn issued a total of 600 driving citations Labor Day enforcement campaign from Aug. 15 to Sept. 2, including 496 seat belt citations.
OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police issued a record-breaking 496 seat belt citations – 264 of which were issued in the nighttime hours – during its Labor Day driving enforcement campaign that started Aug. 15 and continued through the early morning hours of Sept. 2.
In total, Oak Lawn police issued 600 citations. Other citations and arrests included:
- 01 driving under the influence
- 13 speeding citations
- 14 child safety seat violations
- 06 distracted driving citations
- 59 other citations (moving and equipment violations)
- 03 felony arrests (Aggravated Unlawful Possession of Weapon/Firearm)
- 08 criminal arrests (suspended/revoked licenses)
“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving – ‘It’s Not a Game,’” Sgt. Nick Kumke, of the Oak Lawn Police Department.

The Oak Lawn Police Department collaborated with other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High Get a DUI” campaign, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
