4 Armed Robberies Reported in First 5 Days of the New Year: Oak Park Police

None of the suspects have been caught as of Friday afternoon.

A series of armed robberies hit the Oak Park area this past week, adding up to a total four reported in the first five days of the new year.

In one instance, between 11:23 p.m. and 11:25 p.m. Jan. 1, two men robbed a 7-Eleven in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue. One suspect, described as an 18-year-old black man standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-7, was wearing a black hooded jacket, red shoes and had a black scarf covering his face. He approached the store clerk with a long-barrel black revolver while another man held the door. The first suspect stole cash and four to five packs of cigarettes before fleeing. The total estimated loss was $150.

On the second day of 2017, another pair of men walked into a Domino’s Pizza on the 300 block of Chicago Avenue just before 8 p.m. and demanded money from the cash register. The suspects, described as wearing black hooded sweatshirts, light pants and black ski masks, wore dark gloves throughout the robbery. Police didn’t specify the weapon used in the armed robbery or the total amount of cash lost to the incident.

The most recent armed robbery involved a street assault in which a woman lost $620 in cash. Two black men, estimated to be 16 years old and both wearing black winter hats, approached a woman in the 400 block of N. Taylor and grabbed her backpack. When the woman turned around, one of the young men was pointing a handgun at her and demanding everything she had. The offenders took her backpack, as well as a silver Apple iPhone 6 and $20 in cash that she dropped on the ground. The incident took place Jan. 5.

Also on Jan. 5, similarly described suspects approached a man on the 100 block of Berkshire with a handgun and demanded his wallet. The man turned over the black Coach wallet her was carrying, which had $400 in cash in it, as well as all of his IDs and credit cards. His estimated total loss is $600.
