1. An arsonist attempted to set fire to three cars in a Forest Park alley on May 7, the Review reports. The person was caught on a doorbell camera in the 1400 block of Harlem. (Review)
2. Sen. Don Harmon will serve as chair of the selection committee to name a Cook County Commissioner to replace Brandon Johnson on the board, the Review reports. Johnson formally resigned the post May 13 before being sworn in as the mayor of Chicago. “Anyone interested in applying to our committee for the appointment should submit a resume and a short cover letter signifying their interest and qualifications,” the Senate President from Oak Park said. 3. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Community Recreation Center will be held Sunday by the Park District of Oak Park. The new space officially opens Monday, featuring sports courts, exercise equipment and offices for mental health services and after-school programs. (Wednesday Journal)
4. Homeowners in River Forest Township can appeal their property tax assessments through May 31, according to the assessor’s office. A presentation on the process will be held next Tuesday at the River Forest Community Center. (VRF)
5. What’s Blooming on Harrison returns to the Oak Park Arts District this Saturday. The event dates back to 1999 and features an art fair and auction, live music, food, drinks and a carnival for kids. (OPAD)
