Claude, 71, was on his way home from Le Bouchon in Bucktown early April 9 when he was killed in a 15-car crash on the Eisenhower Expressway. He was reportedly hit after he got out of his car, and he died at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Three others were taken to local hospitals with injuries.

Claude opened Le Bouchon in 1993, and its Parisian café sister, La Sardine, opened in 1998.

Both restaurants were closed Saturday and neither are open Sundays, though business resumed Monday, which, Poilevey's wife told the Tribune, is what he would have wanted.

Some have taken to the Facebook pages of each restaurant to express condolences and to share their memories of the famous chef.

This picture was taken back in the day of La Fontaine, when I was just a kid. We will remember Jean-Claude... All our conldolences to Suzanne and family... RIP
