Midtown Athletic Club closes stunning staff, members
Oak Park officials confirm shuttering of fitness center was a business decision.
Called a staple of north Oak Park for years in a recent Chicago Tribune story, the Midtown Athletic Club closed its doors June 30 at 1135 North Harlem Avenue surprising members and staff like.
“It was a shock to a lot of the members when they found out what happened,” Adrienne Smith, a former group fitness instructor, said in the Tribune story. It was a shock to the leadership team who were making changes for the second quarter (of 2015).” David Powers, a spokesperson for the village, said it played no part in what was a business decision for the club.
