OPRFHS Staff Member Fatally Shot at His Birthday Party

The shooting took place around 2:20 a.m. Aug. 7 in Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL — Everick Coleman, who worked as a security monitor at Oak Park and River Forest High School, was shot and killed early Sunday morning during his birthday party in the University Village neighborhood of Chicago.

Coleman was shot in the head and chest around 2:20 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, according to WGN and Wednesday Journal.

Aug. 7 was Coleman's 43rd birthday.

A woman was also shot, and she was taken to Stroger Hospital. About 200 people were attending the neighborhood party for Coleman and other friends with birthdays on Aug. 7, the Chicago Tribune reports. Coleman had four daughters and two grandsons.

He worked at Oak Park and River Forest High School since 2014, Wednesday Journal reports.
