River Forest Police Reports: Burglary, DUI, Theft
River Forest police reported incidents from March 28 to April 4.

At 4 p.m. March 28, officers were sent to 7525 W. Lake, Jewel Foods, for reports of a retail theft in progress. The store manager said someone had just fled the store after taking $177 worth of Gillette razors. The person was seen running on the 300 block of Ashland by responding officers and was taken into custody. The merchandise was recovered and Carvell L. Chatman, 45 of Maywood, was taken to the station. Because Chatman had a 2011 theft conviction, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit approved one count of felony retail theft.
At 6:42 p.m. March 31, officers were sent to 7525 W. Lake, Jewel Foods, for reports of a retail theft in progress. The offender exited the store with $140 worth of liquor products. The person was found a block away from the store and taken into custody. Robert M. Tario, 35 of Chicago, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

At 12:54 a.m. April 3, officers were sent to Harlem and Quick Avenue for a single car crash The car had left the road and struck a light pole. The driver showed signs of intoxication, and he failed field sobriety tests at the scene. Robert M. Wilson, 25 of Chicago, was taken into custody. A Breathalyzer test at the station showed Wilson had a .12 BAC, which is over the legal limit of .08. Because Wilson had been driving on a suspended driver’s license, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit approved felony DUI charges along with several other traffic violations.
At 1:11 a.m. April 4, an officer saw a car drive over the sidewalk and curb on the 400 block of Thatcher. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver showed signs of intoxication. Celia C. Beck, 23 of Chicago, failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. A computer check showed Beck did not have a valid driver’s license and did not have valid insurance. Beck refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the station. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit was contacted and approved felony DUI charges along with several other traffic violations.

At 3:30 p.m. April 4, officers were sent to the 000 block of Ashland for a residential burglary report. The victim said someone had entered an open bedroom window and stole a Sony PS4 game system. The system, along with several video games, was valued at more than $300. The victim said a friend of a family member may be responsible. The Detective Unit is following up on the matter.
