River Forest Police Reports: Burglary, Resisting Arrest, Theft, DUI

River Forest police reported incidents from March 17 to 27.

The following information is courtesy of the River Forest Police Department.

At 2:23 p.m. March 17, officers were sent to 7525 W. Lake, Jewel Foods, for reports of a retail theft in progress. The store manager said someone had just fled the store after taking $175 worth of liquor. The person was last seen eastbound Lake St. on a bicycle. The Detective Unit is reviewing both store and street cameras to develop additional leads.

At 2:01 a.m. March 20, an officer saw a car speeding in the 1400 block of Harlem. Radar confirmed the car was going 52 mph in a 30 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver showed signs of intoxication. The driver, Lauren M. Christoff, 40 of Elmwood Park, failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. At the station, Christoff refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test. Christoff was charged with DUI and speeding.

At 9:40 a.m. March 23, an officer was sent to the police station lobby for an identity theft report. The victim said he received several letters from Transunion notifying him of several attempts to set up fraudulent accounts in Chicago and in California. A fraud alert was placed on the his credit bureau account by Transunion, and the police report was taken for documentation purposes only.

At 2:39 p.m. March 24, an officer was sent to 7525 W. Lake, Jewel Foods, for reports of an incident where four tires were slashed on an employee’s car. The victim said someone slashed her tires on her car sometime after 5:30 a.m. in a lot in the south end of the store. Security cameras did not cover that part of the parking lot, but a former employee is considered a suspect. The Detective Unit is investigating the matter.

At 10:55 a.m. March 25, an officer was sent to a business in the 7600 block of W. Lake for reports of a burglary to the office. The office door had been forced open, and completed company forms were reported stolen. The Detective Unit is investigating the incident.

At 8:42 p.m. March 26, officers responded to 7245 W. Lake, Whole Foods Market, for two people using counterfeit $100 bills. The subjects attempted to flee from police and destroy evidence, but they were taken into custody. Further investigation revealed they tried to use the counterfeit $100 bills at PetCo, Tillys, and Ulta stores in the Town Center. Pierre Mayweather 24 of Chicago, and Brandon Murry 21 of Chicago, were taken to the station. The US Secret Service was contacted and advised that they would take over the counterfeit cash portion of the investigation and that River Forest Police should file misdemeanor obstructing/resisting charges against the two arrestees. Both offenders were charged accordingly and released on bond.
