Here are the top three stories today in Oak Park-River Forest:

  1. An architecturally significant home in Oak Park, boasting over 5,500 square feet of living space, has hit the market. Built-in 1915, the Arts & Crafts style residence incorporates Prairie and Tudor influences and was designed by architects David Postle and John Fischer. The home's history includes being commissioned by John Meier, featuring original woodwork, stained-glass windows, and expansive rooms, with the added benefit of a coach house that could serve as an office or guest suite, all situated on one of the area's most notable lots. (Wednesday Journal)
  2. Nearby Chicago-area Walgreens stores have been blaring orchestra music in hopes of deterring loitering and panhandling. Stores in Greektown, the West Side, and River North were heard blasting Bach repeatedly this week to mixed reviews from customers. Retailers, whether in big cities or suburban malls, have tried this measure as they face increased thefts and pandemic-related disruptions. (Chicago Sun-Times)
  3. An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's officer was wounded in a shooting in the nearby Garfield Ridge neighborhood on Wednesday night. The officer was transported with gunshot wounds to Mount Sinai Hospital—his condition is currently unknown, and there is no further information on the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the whereabouts or description of a suspect.
