Real Estate

Should you wait a month or two to list your home for sale?

I get asked this question frequently, as a local Realtor with RE/MAX in Oak Park.

Wait til after the Super Bowl to list your home? Not if you’re ready to move sooner!

Should you wait a month or two to put your house up for sale?

Conventional wisdom would have you believe the real estate market is dead right after the holidays and the new year. Listing after the Super Bowl is a popular piece of advice, but there are plenty of good reasons not to wait.

First, if you're ready to sell, waiting until February, March or later could mean more homes are on the market by then, giving buyers more choice in which home to buy.

Second, waiting could mean the market continues to shift, or interest rates continue to rise, or the economy continues to soften — all potential roadblocks to your successful home sale.

Finally, getting the process started now means we can have your home prepped and ready for the market sooner rather than later — which means you'll get where you want to be faster!
