1. Visit Oak Park will receive $475,000 to highlight the village’s historic connections to Route 66. Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced more than 50 grant recipients Thursday, with a total $6.6 million going toward tourism projects throughout the state. Oak Park plans for the funding to include “an illuminated Route 66 Gateway structure on Ogden Avenue, new Route 66 signage, wayfinding signage to iconic Route 66 locations, and new signage to promote new car chargers.” (State of Illinois)

2. Structural repairs are beginning at 930 North Blvd., nearly 18 months after its residents were evacuated due to sloping floors. Financing the repairs took more than nine months, and the Wednesday Journal reports “the building’s former residential tenants are welcome to apply for their old apartments.” (Wednesday Journal)

Hillside Democrat and Illinois Speaker of the House Emanuel ‘Chris’ Welch spoke Thursday about a potential constitutional amendment regarding women’s rights to abortion, the Tribune reports. “If it is on the ballot, it could potentially help Democratic turnout,” Welch said. 4. Oak Park native Mark Guarino has published a new book after 10 years of research.
