Convicted Felon On Parole Arrested With Stolen Vehicle: Police

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Orland Park Police Department said a convicted felon was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and fleeing and eluding, after an officer spotted him with a previously reported stolen car outside Dick's Sporting Goods in Orland Park.

At about 4:30 p.m. Monday, Orland Police said an officer saw the car pulling into the parking lot of the store, located at 1 Orland Park Place. Police said when the driver went inside, the officer confirmed the car is the same one that went missing in Highland Park. The officer was then joined by other police units, when the driver of the car left the store and got back into the stolen car, according to police.

According to police, multiple officers tried to stop the stolen car from escaping by blocking it in and placing a tire deflation device. The driver still managed to get away after hitting a parked car, according to police.

According to police, the driver later left the car at the 7100 block of Wheeler Avenue. Police, K-9 officers and a drone operator set up a perimeter in the area, along with help from Tinley Park and Oak Forest police.

Police said the driver was found inside the Meijer store, pushing a shopping cart full of groceries.

According to police, the driver has been identified as Davanta Wilson, 29, of Chicago. Police said Wilson is a convicted felon who is currently on parole for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Wilson was charged with the following, according to police:

• Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle
• Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
• Leaving the Scene of an Accident
• Driving While License Suspended

Police said Wilson was taken to the Bridgeview Courthouse on Tuesday, where he was issued a $10,000 bond. The Orland Park Police Department thanks the Oak Forest and Tinley Park Police Departments for their assistance.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
