ORLAND PARK, IL — A major fundraiser for a vital resource for victims of domestic violence returns for its 30th year, set for Tuesday, August 8.

The Crisis Center for South Suburbia is a local non-profit that serves victims of domestic violence and their children throughout the entire South Chicagoland area by offering free shelter, housing, counseling, advocacy and support services. Each year, it hosts the Dianne Masters Cup Charity Golf Outing to raise funds to help support its mission. This year’s outing will be held on Tuesday, August 8 at Silver Lake Country Club.

Led by Chair Dan Michalski of New Lenox, this year’s Golf Committee is represented by Maureen Niswonger of Orland Park, Dave Anders of Mokena, Andrew Leoni of Plainfield, Mary Jackson of Frankfort, Jesse Lang of Shorewood, Veronica Studnicka of Oak Lawn, and Amy Brown, Ann Dilger, and Kristine Laakson of Tinley Park.

Masters would have turned 77 years old in June 2023, had she not been murdered in a plot devised by her husband, the non-profit said in a release. As a victim of domestic violence herself, she gave a voice to what was a silent community of victims before 1978. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, a group of women who investigated the prevalence of domestic violence in the south suburbs of Chicago and started a hotline in Dianne’s kitchen. Today, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia employs 74 people, operates on a budget of over six million dollars and provides an array of domestic violence services that impact thousands of south side residents every year.

Funds raised at this year’s golf outing will ensure that the agency continues to provide free shelter, housing, counseling and support services to victims of domestic violence as well as educational and prevention programs for our communities.

"The funds raised from the golf outing are especially important this year, as we recently expanded our emergency shelter to serve 40% more survivors, and we are in need of more resources to provide the care that they deserve," said Special Event and Engagement Manager, Lisa Molloy.
