D230 to Start Search for Next Sandburg Athletic Director
Consolidated High School District 230 are looking within their ranks and outside for a new candidate to fill the large shoes left behind by Bruce Scheidegger. In the meantime, current staff are picking up the slack, according to The Regional News.

Finding the right candidate to replace Carl Sandburg High School’s beloved athletic director Bruce Scheidegger may take some time.
While Consolidated High School District 230 is preparing to start searching for the right candidate, Sandburg’s physical education department chair Steve McInerney is serving as the interim athletic director with help from Mike Polz, Sandburg’s assistant athletic director, according to a report by Jeff Vorva for The Regional News.
Scheidegger died after his car went off the road in rural Carroll County. He was remembered by hundreds in tributes since his passing.

A timeline hasn’t yet been set for the search. D230 board president Frank Grabowski said the search will include candidates from within and outside the school district, according to the report.
“We want to make sure we’re deliberate and we want to make sure to take an adequate amount of time,” Grabowski said in the Regional report. “Many of the people we have in place understand what needs to be done, so, as in many cases people step up when there is a need and people have stepped up at this point in time.”

McInerny said he does not plan to pursue the athletic director position.
“Bruce was phenomenal,” McInerny said. “I told his wife that he was irreplaceable. But we have to move on and carry his spirit with us.”
