Fallen Trooper's Family Thanks Community For Support, Kindness: Letter

Submitted by the family of fallen Illinois State Trooper Clay Carns. Carns died in December 2024 after being struck by a vehicle while clearing debris from the road.

To everyone who showed up, called, texted, prayed, sent a gift, donation, card, food, a hug—thank you! We see you all and feel the support. We love and appreciate every single thing done for our family during this extremely difficult time. The amount of love and generosity we have seen over the last few months has reminded us of the good in the world.

Every act of kindness has warmed our hearts and made us feel very blessed. Our communities have shown up and make us proud of where we came from.

Clay was one of a kind who always put his kids and family first. He is truly irreplaceable, and watching him honored in such a beautiful way will stay with us forever.
