ORLAND PARK, IL — No one was inside an Orland Park preschool Friday morning when a fire broke out, officials said.

Firefighters were called to Sandbox School, 14311 S. 82nd Ave. at 8 a.m. for a report of smoke coming out of an upstairs window. First responders found the sprinkler system activated and smoke out of second floor windows, said Orland Fire Protection District Spokesperson Ray Hanania.

Heavy smoke was found throughout the structure. Fire was found in the rear stairwell and extended to the second floor of the structure before crews were able to extinguish. The building, which was undergoing renovations, was unoccupied at the time. The fire did not spread beyond the structure, Hanania said.
