Fired Restaurant Worker Slipped in Through the Back Door: Cops

A manager suspected she stole from her former co-workers but she denied it, police said.

ORLAND PARK, IL — A fired restaurant worker slipped into the place through the back door and made her way into an area where employees store their purses, jackets and “other personal items,” police said.

A manager of Granite City Food & Brewery reportedly called the cops and told them a former worker “walked in through the back door and is suspected of taking money from employees’ purses.”

The manager went on to tell how he fired the Orland Park woman, 26-year-old Rachel Weaver, “a couple of weeks ago and she does not have the right to enter the building through the rear door,” police said.

The manager also claimed that “other workers told him that Rachel was walking around the parking lot looking into cars,” police said. He “stated he walked the parking lot and he observed Rachel walk in the rear door” but “by the time he made it to the rear door, Rachel walked out the front door.”

Later in the day, Weaver reportedly agreed to stop by the police station and speak with an officer.

“In the interview, Rachel stated she knew she did not have the right or the permission to walk in the back door,” police said. “Rachel stated she did not steal anything, just went to the employee area of Granite City.”

Weaver was still charged with trespassing.
