UPDATED: Roads Slowly Open Back Up in Orland Park After Flooding
A severe storm crawling across northern Illinois Wednesday and early Thursday caused several road closures as flood waters built throughout the area. As it subsided Thursday night, roads began to reopen continuing into Friday, but others remain closed.

Roads started opening up slowly Thursday night, though several main thoroughfares for commuters will remain closed Friday morning.
According to Orland Park Public Works, 2.6 inches of rain fell in the area between midnight Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Over 24 hours, 4.04 inches of rain fell in the area.

- The curb lane northbound LaGrange Road under the viaduct at around 140th remains closed.
Roads Now Open as of 9:15 p.m. Friday
- As of late Thursday afternoon, Southwest Highway, from 135th to 143rd Street is now open.
- 135th Street, from LaGrange Road to Southwest Highway. Eastbound lanes are open. Westbound lanes remain closed.
- 108th Avenue is open from Bear Island to 159th Street, including east entrances to Meadow Ridge School and Century Junior High.
- Will-Cook Road is open from 159th Street to 167th Street.
- Wolf Road is open from Southwest Highway to Brook Hill Drive.
- Silo Ridge Road at the intersection of Silo Ridge West and South is open.
- Wolf Road from Brook Hill Drive to 167th Street is now open.
- Wolf Road from 143rd Street to 151st Street is now open.
- Wolf Road at the 14800 block is open but there is water on the roadway. Signage posted at site.
- 13600 block of Southwest Highway is open but has water on the roadway in the southbound lanes. Signage posted.
- 135th Street from Southwest Highway to LaGrange Road is open with water on the roadway. Signage posted.
- Southwest Highway from 131st to 135th streets is open with signs indicating standing water remains on the road. A car attempted to drive through the flooded area near 131st Street and Southwest Highway around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, and washed off the road, according to a witness.
- 143rd Street is open west of Wolf Road near Creek Crossing. Signs are in place.
- Will-Cook Road is open from Westbrook Drive to 167thStreet. Signs are in place.

Flash flooding conditions in Orland Park has led to several road closures Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flooding warning for Cook and Will counties, as well as several nearby areas, and remains in effect.
According to the NWS, as much as an inch of rain in 30 minutes has fallen during the most recent line of thunderstorms moving across northern Illinois since 7:45 a.m. Thursday, adding to three to six inches of rain that already has fallen in the last 24 hours.
The storm is a described as a “potentially life threatening event” by the NWS, and they recommend avoiding driving if possible.
Motorists should not attempt to drive through areas where water covers the road. Along with local road closures, the Edens, Kennedy and Eisenhower expressways have sections closed due to flooding.
Orland School District 135 cancelled certain bus routes Thursday morning, and others will be delayed. Call 708-349-1866 for more information about bus routes.
