False Report Of Threat Leads To Hard Lockdown At Sandburg HS: PD

Carl Sandburg HS was on hard lockdown Friday, after a swatting incident falsely reported a school shooting threat, Orland police said.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland Park police were on scene at Carl Sandburg High School Friday afternoon, after the school was placed on lockdown following what police determined to be a falsely reported threat of a school shooting, or swatting, police said.

A hard lockdown was issued around 1:40 p.m., said Jennifer Waterman, director of communications for District 230. A scanner report relayed that a distressed student had called 911 with a report of two students threatening to shoot people inside the school.

Administrators put the school on hard lockdown while police investigated and worked to clear the building. During a hard lockdown, no one is allowed in or out of the building, and students are kept in their current classrooms.
