ORLAND PARK, IL — A lightning strike caused a fire in the attic of an Orland Park home Sunday evening, officials said.

The strike happened around 5 p.m. at a home in the 132nd block of Harvest Crossing in Silo Ridge subdivision, Orland Fire Protection District officials said Monday. The homeowner smelled smoke minutes after the lightning struck his home and immediately called for help, said Fire Chief Michael Schofield.

Crews entered the home and found light smoke on the second floor and moderate smoke in the attic space. Several wooden structural pieces and insulation in the attic were found charred and smoldering.
