Lightsaber-Wielding Trespasser Not Wanted in Dave and Buster's Parking Lot: Cops

Lightsaber or not, the Orland Park man was not welcome in the Dave & Buster's parking lot, police said.

ORLAND PARK, IL — An unwanted, lightsaber-wielding Orland Park man was arrested after he was spotted dashing through the Dave & Buster’s parking lot, police said.

Patrol officers reportedly noticed 43-year-old Edward Novak “running around the parking lot with a lightsaber” shortly before 10 p.m. on Feb. 18.

One of the officers knew Novak “from previous interactions,” police said. One of those interactions may or may not have been when police were called to St. Michael’s church because Novak was allegedly “hanging around in the ‘chapel area’” back in April.

St. Michael’s staff didn’t want Novak there, police said, and Orland Square Mall management didn’t want him around either. In fact, Novak has reportedly been banned from the mall and its surrounding properties, including the Dave & Buster’s parking lot, for two years.

But Novak was still there, police said, and he was “being loud and then started throwing his personal belongings in the lot.”

“Edward proceeded to lay down in the lot and yell,” police said, so officers took him into custody.

Novak was allegedly carrying three pot pipes when he was arrested. He was charged with trespassing and possessing drug paraphernalia.
