Active Shooter Alarms At Orland Schools Accidentally Set Off: PD

Emergency notification systems at Meadow Ridge, Century Jr High were activated accidentally Wednesday afternoon, police said.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Lockdowns at Meadow Ridge Elementary and Century Junior High in Orland Park were lifted Wednesday afternoon, after police determined the schools' emergency notification systems had been accidentally triggered.

Police were on scene at Meadow Ridge, 10959 W. 159th St., and Century Junior High, 10801 W. 159th St., after the schools' emergency alert systems were set off Wednesday afternoon. The schools were placed on lockdown while police followed protocol and swept both schools.

"The Orland Park Police Department has conducted a full search of both schools and confirmed the accidental activation of the emergency notification system," Orland Park police said on social media. "Both schools have been released from lockdown."

An initial scanner report that a lanyard was found unattended was inaccurate, district officials told Patch.

There was no threat to staff or students, Orland Park Police Commander Ken Rosinski told Patch.
