Mailbox At Orland Park Post Office Sawed Open, Mail Stolen: Orland PD

Police are warning anyone who used the box from Saturday evening through early Monday to monitor their accounts.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland Park police are warning residents to be aware of any fraudulent financial activity, after a mailbox at a local post office was cut open and contents were stolen from inside.

Police Monday afternoon said that at 6 a.m. July 31, police were informed of criminal damage to a mailbox at the post office at 9500 W. 144th Place.

Someone used a sawzall tool, police said, to cut open the mailbox and take items from inside.

Anyone who used the mailbox after 5 p.m. Saturday, July 29, and before 2 a.m. Monday, July 31, is encouraged to monitor financial accounts and credit profiles for fraudulent activity.

Anyone who discovers any suspicious activity should contact the United States Postal Service to file a theft report online.

The case is under investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Office, police said.
