Next Stage of Orland Plaza Demo to Happen to Happen Soon (Live Blog Transcript)

The Orland Park Village Board meets Monday night, starting with committee meetings at 6 p.m. Join our live blog then and weigh in on the conversation.

Update

While more asbestos was found under flooring in three areas in the former Orland Plaza building, the next phase of demolition is scheduled to happen in about two weeks.

The Orland Park Village Board voted to add about $40,000 to a current demolition contract to remove the asbestos.

"They have to clean it, and we'll verify it with the county," said Orland Park Village Manager Paul Grimes after Monday's meeting. "Demolition should be done within the next two weeks."

The Gee Insurance office and Marquette Bank will remain standing until spring 2014, Grimes said.

Trustees also voted to award the dog park construction bid. The park is expected to be ready by the end of July, Grime said.

"It won't take that long to do," Grimes said after the meeting, in regard to the park.

Orland Park trustees will discuss a recent finding in the former Orland Plaza building that may further delay demolition.

According to a village memo, the Cook County Department of Environmental Control found three areas in the structure that need further asbestos testing before the building can be demolished.

The village's parks and recreation committee will discuss adding an additional $40,000 of work to the project in order to remove the asbestos, during Monday night's meeting.

The village's technology and finance committees also meet Monday night.
