Orland Park Cancer Benefit to Honor Cha Cha Slide Songwriter

A local benefit will honor one of Chicago's musical legends.

A Chicagoan and platinum recording artist is rallying support from the community for his under way battle against cancer.

The first step? A June 20 fundraiser right here in Orland Park.

D.J. Casper, 51, is best known for his party-goer pleasing tune, the Cha Cha Slide, which typically beckons everyone from toddlers to great aunts to the dance floor for a choreographed routine. It's now been nearly 20 years since the beat topped the charts and Casper has a very different path before him, according to a WGN News report.

After recently being diagnosed with two forms of cancer, he is hoping those around him can contribute donations to bolster the cost of chemotherapy and other treatments.

The upcoming benefit is set for 5 p.m. on June 20 at D.A.'s Deli and Dining, 7260 W. 159th St. in Orland Park. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased online. You can also donate via Casper's Go Fund Me page.
