Orland Park Library Board Candidates File For April Election

ORLAND PARK, IL — As we turn the page to chapter 2021, we find the April Consolidated Elections are just around the corner. Candidates for various positions around Orland Park are officially in the running for mayor, village trustee, library board and more.

Filing for the election ended in December, with many old and new faces entering various races around the village.

Four candidates have filed to run for the Orland Park Public Library Board this April. Two board members are up for re-election at the library, Joanna M. Liotine Leafblad and Christian J. Barcelona. Leafblad is the current president of the board of trustees. Barcelona is the immediate past president, and now serves as the vice-president.

The following candidates have filed to run against the incumbents:

• Mohammed Jaber — Running for library trustee, Jaber is a new candidate to the race who filed on Nov. 14.

• Jamie K. Makuch — Makuch is running for library trustee and filed for the race on Nov. 18

A lottery was held on Dec. 29 to determine library trustee ballot position. As a result, Leafblad will hold the top slot, with Barcelona taking slot two.

Leafblad serves on the Service and Policy committee, Personnel committee and the Law committee for the library. Barcelona serves on the Building and Maintenance committee, Capital Campaign committee, Personnel committee and the By-Laws committee for the Board of Library Trustees.

"It is very exciting to see so many people actively participating in the democratic process in their local communities," Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough said in a news release. "These elections are often overlooked although they have the most impact on our day-to-day lives."

The Consolidated Election will take place on April 6. Consolidated primaries are scheduled for Feb. 23. For more information regarding the upcoming election, click here.
