Orland Park Police Blotter: Theft Before Holidays and Broken Glass Door

Orland Park police reports, Dec. 2-13

THURSDAY, DEC. 13

Shopping Cart Cover

Police were called to Kohl’s about a retail theft around 3:25 p.m. Security said a woman was seen placing three pairs of children’s jeans and a grey shirt into a shopping cart and entering a dressing room, according to the report. The woman left the dressing room, and was found outside the store having not paid for the four items still at the bottom of her cart, police said. The items are worth $146, according to the report. Brittany J. Turner, 24, of the 2200 block of Fulton Street in Blue Island, was charged with retail theft.

Purse Fill

Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 6:40 p.m. Security said a woman was seen carrying two items into a dressing room, and leaving with none, police said. The woman then left the store and the two unpaid-for items were found in her purse, worth a total of $116, according to the report. Hannah E. Sereda, 23, of the 14300 block of Linder Avenue in Midlothian, was charged with retail theft.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12

Two Bottles of Cologne and Chase

Police were called about a retail theft at Sears around 11 a.m. Officers arrived to see a man running south on Orland Square Drive who fit the description given by store security, police said. He was caught near a dumpster, where police later found two bottles of cologne, according to the report. Security said the man was seen taking two bottles of cologne and placed them in his coat pocket before leaving the store without paying, police said. The man was charged with a felony based on past theft convictions, police said. Ernest L. Minyard, 36, of the 7400 block of 111th Street in Worth, was charged with felony retail theft.

SATURDAY, DEC. 8

Liquor Bottle to Glass Door

Police were called about criminal damage in the 9100 block of Greencastle Lane around 5:30 a.m. A woman started receiving harassing phone calls and texts from a man, even after he was told to stop, according to the report. The woman agreed to meet with the man briefly, and he followed her back to the residence where he broke a glass screen door with a liquor bottle, and was spotted running away, according to the report. Police later found remnants of the liquor bottle near the residence, according to the report. The man was later found at Jewel on 159th Street, and taken into custody, when officers smelled alcohol on his breath, police said. Zoraiz Mirza, 19, of the 18100 block of Autumn Ridge Drive in Orland Park, was charged with criminal damage to property, criminal trespassing, consumption of alcohol by a minor and two counts of harassment.

SUNDAY, DEC. 2

Stuffed Bag and Purse

Police were called to Macy’s about a retail theft around 11 a.m. Security said a woman was seen carrying a purple shopping bag and a purse, and walking around the store selecting assorted items before heading into a dressing room, according to the report. The woman left the dressing room with fewer visible items than when she entered, and left the store without buying several items that were later found in the bag and purse, police said. Officers also found a pair of heavy scissors used to remove security tags, police said. The total value of the stolen merchandise is $732. Katherine L. Hufstedler-Naim, 53, of the 700 block of 73rd Street in Downers Grove, was charged with felony retail theft.
