Orland School District 135 has officially announced the establishment of its highest honor, the Community Leaders in Action Award. This new initiative is designed to recognize the extraordinary individuals and organizations whose daily contributions reflect the district's core mission, vision, and values.
The award aims to bring well-deserved recognition to the "unsung heroes" of the community—including parents, staff members, students, and local partners. According to district officials, the honor celebrates those whose actions go above and beyond to foster a supportive, exceptional environment through kindness, innovation, and resilience.
Recognizing Excellence in Four Categories
The district is currently seeking nominations from the public to identify those who have made a measurable positive impact. Nominees can be recognized in one of four distinct categories:

- Act of Kindness/Compassion in Action: Celebrating those who lead with empathy.
- Exceptional Initiative: Highlighting innovators and proactive leaders.
- Kindred Spirit: Recognizing those who build strong community bonds.
- Resilience: Honoring individuals who demonstrate strength in the face of challenges.
The Path to the Top Honor
The nomination window is open now and will remain active until early April 2026. Following a review process, winners in each category will be notified in late April or early May.
The program will culminate at the end of the school year with the presentation of the prestigious overall "Community Leaders in Action Award," which will be awarded to a single honoree selected from the category winners.
