Parents Seek Answers In Death Of Orland Man Hit By School Bus

Michael Mietus of Orland Park died Aug. 16, four days after he was hit by the mirror of a school bus. His parents are looking for answers.

ORLAND PARK, IL —A 21-year-old man who was hit by a school bus on its way to an Orland Park school has died, and his parents say they still do not know what happened.

Michael Mietus of Orland Park died Aug. 16, four days after he was hit by the mirror of a school bus during a rush-hour accident that shut down portions of Wolf Road.

On Aug. 12, police told Patch that Mietus may have wandered into the road.

The bus driver and a student who was on the bus were unhurt in the incident. At the time, police told Patch the crash was under investigation.

Mietus' parents don't believe their son wandered into the road. His father, Andrzej Mietus, told CBS the street is narrow, and he thinks the bus driver got too close to his son and hit him with the mirror.

According to his obituary, Michael Mietus leaves behind his parents, Graznya and Andrzej Mietus. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bartosz Kaluza.
