Pretty In Pink, Orland Park Rainbow Cone Now Officially Open

ORLAND PARK, IL — If you've missed it (but really, how could you?) there's a brand new, bright pink addition to Harlem Avenue in Orland Park.

Splashed in bubblegum pink, The Original Rainbow Cone, located at 15711 Harlem Ave., officially opened its doors Friday, May 26. It replaced longtime pie favorite Bakers Square, bringing a nostalgic feel to a suburban retail block. And you can't miss the giant Rainbow Cone hanging above the patio.

It's pink, but not QUITE as pink as the original, 9233 S. Western Ave. in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, where the cone has beckoned to crowds lining up out the door for almost a century.

The cone has been a staple of the Chicago dessert scene for over 95 years, and has become a local favorite, with lines stretching down the block during the summer months.

Never had a Rainbow Cone? It was created in 1926 by "Grandpa Joe" Sapp, who "was never satisfied with just one ice cream flavor and instead stacked five delicious options on a single cone for a one-of-a-kind culinary classic," the company said. They still stack the same flavors today: orange sherbet, pistachio, Palmer House, strawberry, and chocolate.

The Orland Park location is the company's third standalone. The location will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition to its famous Rainbow Cones, the store will also offer other treats like shakes, ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches and mini donuts made to order.

Lynn Sapp, third generation owner of The Original Rainbow Cone, said she's excited to bring the favorite sweet treat to Orland Park, for longtime fans and those who have yet to indulge.

"We can't wait to welcome our new customers to the Orland Park location," Sapp said. "Whether you're a longtime fan of Rainbow Cone or trying it for the first time, we guarantee you'll love our unique combination of flavors."
