Raid Results In Orland Man's Arrest, Murder Charge In 2022 Slaying Of Crete Man

ORLAND PARK, IL — Authorities on Friday raided the Orland Park home of a man accused of fatally shooting a Crete man at a Park Forest house party in November 2022.

Rick'l A. Thompson, 27, of Orland Park, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder for the November 2022 slaying of 28-year-old Marvin Johnson, Park Forest Police announced on social media.

On Nov. 6, just after 11 p.m., Park Forest Officers responded to a shooting at a house party on the 0-100 block of South Arbor Trail in the Will County portion of Park Forest. Responding officers found Marvin Johnson, of Crete, in the living room of the home with multiple gunshot wounds and showing no signs of life.

Officers and Park Forest paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but Johnson was pronounced dead, police said. The Park Forest Police Department's Investigations Division and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force immediately began an extensive and thorough investigation.

"After hundreds of hours of investigative work, Rick'l A. Thompson was identified as a suspect," Park Forest police said. "It is believed the incident stemmed from a dispute that occurred almost a decade ago and was not random."

At around 4:30 a.m. May 12, the Park Forest Police Department, assisted by the South Suburban Emergency Response Team and the Orland Park Police Department, executed a search warrant at Thompson's home in the 10400 block of San Luis Lane in Orland Park. He was taken into custody, and a search of the house revealed additional evidence, police said.

On May 13, the Will County State's Attorney's Office approved three counts of first-degree murder against Thompson.

Thompson, who has prior felony convictions for robbery, burglary and escape/violation of electronic monitoring, is currently in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Facility, and his bond has been set at $2.5 million.
