Sandburg HS Charity Hoops Event Raises Nearly $3K For Orland Nonprofit
High school's basketball players teamed up in a free throw event to support local nonprofit CTF Illinois.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Sandburg High boys’ and girls’ basketball team recently raised $2,500 for CTF Illinois (CTF), an Orland Park-based nonprofit that supports adults with developmental disabilities, during their annual Free Throws for Charity fundraiser. At the end of the event, the check was presented to CTF’s Director of Development, Susan Barnes, and one of the individuals served by their programming.
In addition to the generous contribution, Barnes spoke to the interactions players had with the individual accompanying her, saying “What stood out most was how engaged everyone was with us. They were genuinely excited to get to know one of the people they were helping support, and it just goes to show how dedicated they are to improving their community.”
The Free Throws for Charity fundraiser is an annual event where students in Sandburg High’s basketball program have the opportunity to earn money for local organizations through pledges based on how many free-throw baskets they make out of 100. About the event, John Daniels, coach for the boys’ basketball team says “Our goal as a basketball program is to give our players a valuable experience to grow both on and off the court.”
