Smith Crossing residents bring a measure of comfort and warmth to unhoused
Smith Crossing residents provide warm winter wear and hygiene essentials for 60 people spending this winter without a home

Kay Sue Nagle and Glenn Kersten were among the Smith Crossing residents who volunteered on November 17 to fill up hand-sewn “comfort bags.” Each of the nearly 60 bags contained warm gloves, a hat and scarf, two pairs of socks, toothbrush and towel and other gender-specific toiletries, plus a Christmas card — all donated by Smith Village residents — to help ameliorate winter’s hardships for unhoused people in the area, who later received the gifts at the Daybreak Center shelter in Joliet.
