This is the week of disbelief.

I'll be going into more detail on the topic later, but for now, know there is no joy in covering a tragedy. People want to grieve and that can be difficult when questions are asked.
In that case, you might ask why should Orland Park Patch cover this when so many news outlets already are doing so?

I made a commitment to tell the stories of Orland and if I simply put my head in the sand when there's an upsetting story to tell, then I have lied to you through omission.
That is unacceptable. I am not turned on by tragedy, but it is important for me to tell all these stories well. Feel free to offer your thoughts and feedback as we go.
Furthermore, we have other features from this past week. There was slight progress on the Orland Square Mall tax assessment appeal, and no one was seriously injured in an accident with a vehicle and a school bus with kids coming from High Point Elementary.
The Eagles couldn't best the Griffins during Friday's homecoming game. Our sports crew unveiled a new feature, highlighting their top 10 picks among area teams. Orland Park School District 135 was made privy to a series of changes in the Illinois School Code. We'll be diving into those changes soon.
This week, look for a video of singer Ava Logan performing at the Orland Park Cultural Center and a peek into unique programming at the Bridge Teen Center. We also have a few more sports profiles on deck from writer Erin Redmond.
Keep in touch and we'll see you around town.
