Vietnamese-Targeting Inmate Convicted of More Kidnapping and Burglary Charges
A man already in prison was found guilty on charges related to a break in at an Orland Park home, where he locked an 11-year-old in a bathroom before stealing items from the home.
A man serving 40 years in prison for locking a person in a bathroom, before fleeing with valuables, was recently found guilty on charges from a similar crime in .
Tuyen Ngo, 35, was convicted of aggravated kidnapping and residential burglary after a trial at the Bridgeview Courthouse, according to a release from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
On April 19, 2008, Ngo rang the doorbell at a home in the 16200 block of Kingsport Road in Orland Park. Only an 11-year-old victim was home at the time, and the victim didn’t answer the door, according to the release. Ngo then broke a window in the basement, and went inside, where he pushed the victim into a bathroom and held the door shut with a computer cord, according to the release.

Ngo then took jewelry, a safe, cash and two computers out to his van, parked in the home’s driveway. Ngo went back into the house, and took the cord off the bathroom door before leaving, authorities said.
A surveillance camera on a neighbor’s home caught images of Ngo leaving the house, according to the release.

Nine days later, Ngo performed a similar crime in Chicago, according to the release.
On May 19, 2008, authorities said Ngo broke into a house in Burbank, armed with a handgun, locked a resident in the bathroom and fled with jewelry and money. Before leaving, Ngo fired the gun twice into the floor, according to the release.
On August 12, 2008, Ngo was arrested while he was out on bond for a similar burglary/kidnapping case in Waukesha, Wisconsin, according to the release.
On Feb. 10, 2011, Ngo was convicted and sentenced to 40 years in prison for the Burbank home invasion, authorities said.
Ngo targeted Vietnamese nail salon owners and others with family-owned stores for the robberies and burglaries, according to the release.
In each other crimes, the victims were Vietnamese.
Ngo is scheduled to be sentenced for the Orland Park case on Aug. 15.
Charges from the Chicago and Wisconsin cases, as well as another similar crime he was charged with in Skokie, are still pending.
