OSWEGO, IL — The Village of Oswego on Wednesday announced that it would award grants to 46 businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic and related shutdowns.

Funding for the grants is provided by the Local CURE Economic Support Program, administered
by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and funded through the
Federal CARES Act. Through a competitive process, Oswego received $250,000 of approximately $3.96 million distributed to communities in the region.

Each business will be awarded between $500 and $15,000. The amounts awarded were based
on the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the applicant's business operations and
the impact that the business has in the community, including the number of employees,
scope of services, and customer base.

A total of 70 businesses applied for funding prior to the deadline. Businesses were excluded
from funding either because they did not complete the application and could not be reached
for follow-up, or because they did not meet DCEO eligibility requirements related to the
business’ location or prior grant awards.

Businesses received funding for multiple needs, including loan forgiveness, restarting business
operations, supporting restaurant operations, rent assistance, and general business support.
Applicant businesses had to meet certain eligibility standards set by the DCEO and must
enter into a grant agreement required by DCEO.

"I am pleased that the Village of Oswego has been able to secure this funding for our small
businesses, and that we were able to distribute the funds so quickly to those businesses that
have been badly hurt by this pandemic," Village President Troy Parlier said. "There is a lot of need out there, and the Village is working hard to find as many available resources as possible for our small businesses."
