Another Child Rescued from Civic Center Pool
Lifeguard's quick action saves life of 4-year-old.

For the second time in as many weeks, a child was rescued Monday morning from the .
According to Dan Schiradelly, battalion chief with the , paramedics were called to the pool for a report of a possible drowning at about 9 a.m. When they arrived they found a 4-year-old boy to be conscious and breathing.
Rich Zielke, the park district executive director, said a lifeguard in the pool’s zero-depth play area noticed the boy struggling and quickly jumped into action. The boy was unconscious and not breathing when the lifeguard pulled him from the water, Zielke said. However, the lifeguard quickly performing live-saving techniques, and he was revived by the time paramedics arrived.

Zielke said the boy was at the pool as part of the district’s Kids Connection summer camp program.
The incident is similar to in which a 5-year-old Oswego boy was rescued and saved by pool lifeguards. Zielke said the number of rescues at the pool already this year is highly unusual.

“This is the first time in my 20 years in parks and recreation that I can remember this many rescues,” he said.
