OSWEGO, IL — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday morning at Oswego East High School after police say he threatened to shoot other students.

Police responded to the campus, 1525 Harvey Road, around 9:50 a.m. after school staff notified them of the threats.

The teen was detained by the Oswego Police school resource officer.

In a news release, police said officers corroborated the threats but determined there were no weapons involved.

The 16-year-old was taken into custody on a felony charge of disorderly conduct. He was taken to the Oswego Police Department, where he was processed before being taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center to await a hearing.

"The Oswego Police Department would like to thank the students who reported it and came forward to say something," police said in the release. "Oswego Police take all reports of student safety seriously and are dedicated to ensuring they are handled swiftly and appropriately. Oswego Police conducted a thorough investigation and believe there is no current threat of danger to students, staff, or the school."

Over the last week, several young students in area districts have found themselves facing charges for posting threats that police deemed were not credible.
